Yeah, I do miss the days when the mixtape was actually a MIX…TAPE.

But to the credit of DJ’s like Clue who kinda changed things, I feel that the reason why he won so much back then was because he realized something a lot of DJ’s prob. weren’t willing to accept. He realized that when it boils down, the mixtapes aren’t about the DJ’s as much as they’re about the songs. I know when I was younger, I never bought a mixtape on the strength of who the DJ was. If Ron G or Doo Wop had a bad tape and a lesser-known dude had more good stuff on his, I was gonna go with his. So I guess Clue figured that the name recognition as well as the exclusives was a great combination. And then you add the fact that Clue sucked on the 12s (except for blends), and I’ll say he made the best of his situation.

That being said, the ’95 Live intro and tape was indeed a great thing in hip-hop at that time. Although I never understood what the craze over the E Bros. “Funky Piano” was that winter. They made damn near everybody’s mixtape with that half-ass song.

BRING IT BACK TO THE ESSCENCE , WHERE MIXTAPES WAS WORTH LISTENING TOO AS OPPOSE TO THE GARBAGE NOW.
