...oh and the first Artifacts album, too...okay, he's a good producer but his views on race, and Caucasians place within a predominantly black culture, are somewhat twisted....I agree with Big D.
Great interview, though.

cool interview....was really disappointed in his comments about Serch...WTF does "he always tried to act black" mean? What is "acting black"? Black people are not one monolithic group of people that act one particuliar way and that type of comment isn't very becoming of someone that was around the culture back in it's hay day...He's from the south so I kinda expect him to have a sort of warped view of race anyway...prolly just sore cause Serch did his country ass dirty on the business tip...

yo gstatty... you ain't seein what I'm sayin... I didn't say anything about 'rap' coming from the funk... To me and a lot of people, 'rap' became the pop art of biting Hiphop when the mass media stopped avoiding the word 'Hiphop' and began mis-using it... And if a producer ain't sampling, and doesn't have a super-naturally gifted ear for good samples, he/she better be able to play/create sounds, tunes, melodies, drum patterns, etc... that are comparable to/sound as good as fresh samples and loops... Most of the time, they can't... JJ Brown is a good example of a producer who can at times... You're misinterpreting me...

hey ac the pd, all rap doesn't come from funk, what about the producers these days and in the past that make their own original beats, sampling isn't the soul of hip hop, emcees and djs are the soul of hip hop, samples don't define our genre, however, keeping shit fresh is definitely the word, and i think t-ray had it right when he was spinnin that shit that no one had heard, cause its usually the grimey cats ditc and trying to make a name for themselves that make music that speaks to you, up until they get their record deal and sell out and lose their inspirational drive to create musical gems, great interview robbie, i look forward to the rest, jokes about serch being such a doo doo head
