Does the world need another American Gangster remix album? Considering I haven’t listened to any of ‘em, and only have a passing familiarity with the original, all I can tell you on first listen is that K-Def‘s versions of “Pray”, “Hello Brooklyn” and “Blue Magic” easily outclass the retail mixes.
Jay-Z - “Pray” [K-Def Remix]

ending the year 2007 with mass destruction or what???!!!
damn!!!this is krazy!!!
most of remixes are excellent, true K-DEF style.for me personally,i think maybe he’s new style of making beats without no samples, sounds a little bit synthetic, not that extraordinary like the 93-97 Kdef.
i’m very glad for k-def for that oportunity to do remixes for ‘american gangster’.i hope lotta people and mostly the todays kids will discover finally the uncontested best hip hop beatmaker of the years 1993,1994,1995,1996 &1997!!!

Comment by National 01.01.08 @Gotta respect K-Def..
From the sounds of it dude felt sort of short changed from his relationship with Marley Marl (though kind of philosphical) but dude has stuck to his guns.
As an individual producucer without funds to pay for ‘the classic samples’ he replays them himself.. that’s some ‘basement’ ethos right there.
So some of the licks don’t sound too dusty, but fuckit, guy’s got ideas by the pound! (as ‘The Fool’ demonstrated).
This was my favourite late Christmas present.
