The Search For The Ultimate NY Anthem

It ain’t no mystery that New York has been the subject of a wide variety of rap dedications, being the birthplace of hip-hop and whatnot. But which Rotten Apple dedication deserves to be top of the heap? After selecting thirteen tracks that reference NY in the title, the next step was to run my selections by three esteemed residents of Gotham to get their opinions on which cuts win and those that don’t make the grade. Finally, the final six finalists will then be put to vote.

Three Times Dope:

Tony Bones – Graphic Designer and MC, currently located in Harlem.

Dallas Penn – Evil Genius and Internets Celebrity, Planet Brooklyn.

eskay – The Greatest Blogger Alive, Yonkers.

Sadat X – Generation X Album Review

Everyone’s favorite baldhead returns with his first LP since his ‘extended vacation’.

‘Now’ feat. Twan

The first of a bunch of 80′s beat reinterpretations, album producer Will Tell flips ‘The Pee Wee Herman’ for Dat’s tales of chasing broads.

‘This Is Your Life’

Over some dope horns Sadat details the history of his time with Brand Nubian and life on the road. “Now when Puba left the group, we regrouped/He said ‘Y’all should be good’ but the public just never understood”. Great track.

‘Jungle’ feat. Twanie Ranks

Ragga hooks are coming back? The main beat is good though. “I had to pay my daughters school fees/ And you know I had to have a little dollars for trees”. Classic.

‘Never’

Rocking that ‘Something For The Radio’ beat and an amusing vocal snippet. Good stuff.

‘Think Different’

Uses some zany pop tune for the hook. This is no ‘Slow Down’ though.

Diamond D - ‘Don’t Beg’

Taken for The Huge Hefner Chronicles. As the name suggests, he talks about broads a lot on the album.

R.I.P. Swagger

The internets have decided – with a whopping 43% of the votes cast in the last week, the term ‘swagger’ has been cast into the wastelands of abandoned slang. While the Unkut Dot Com massive will be doing our part to stamp out use of this shitty terminology, we can’t do it alone. Next time you hear some hump tossing the term around, feel free to mush them in the face, put ‘em in a yoke or rip the popped collar of their smedium polo. That oughta learn ‘em! Remember – if only one douchebag stops using this bullshit word for a day, it’s been worth it.

Which Slang Term Should Be Removed From This Corner of The Internets?

  • Swagger (33%, 492 Votes)
  • Hardbody (22%, 326 Votes)
  • Hater (20%, 299 Votes)
  • Real Talk (18%, 266 Votes)
  • Hype (8%, 114 Votes)
