Thought I might dedicate this week to Philly, and since I’m still kinda faded from the weekends antics I’ll set it off some of the Hilltop Hustlers videos. Not exactly representative of their finest work, but tomorrow I’ll get some vinyl rips up to showcase the Hilltop at their best. Special shout-out goes to the chick Michelle who skeezed dated Steady B and EST before Cool C made her wifey.

Steady B – ‘Serious’

Steady B - ‘Nasty Girls’

Cool C - ‘I Gotta Habit’

Cool C - ‘Glamorous Life’

Three Times Dope - ‘Greatest Man Alive’

Three Times Dope - ‘Funky Dividends’

Three Times Dope - ‘Weak At The Knees’

Three Times Dope - ‘No Words’

Larry Larr - ‘Larry, That’s What They Call Me’ (never part of the Hilltop Hustlers, but down with 3-D)

Great idea, looking forward to the rest of this week. Steady B and 3xDope were two of my favorites growing up.

Love this post!!!!!! EST elevated the Philly emcee before the coming of greats like-Black Thought. Can’t wait for the rest of this week.

That’s a Sequential Circuits 440 in the “Greatest Man Alive” video. Not as popular as the other samplers and hard to get ahold of even today. Neat machine.

dope post, brings me back. I remember they had two cats on the drum machines…that was what sparked my mind and made me want to produce instead of just be a DJ/emcee

I think thats Jill Scott in the Cool C video!

Comment by chronwell 05.28.09 @

@ Chronwell! Yup! That is Jill Scott!!! I saw this mentioned on another site … can’t remember where.

I remember there a story accompanying the video saying that Cool C picked a fight with Kane, and that Kane handed his ass to him!!! I’ll have to google it and find it again!!!

Good shit.. Dig up some Breeze, Ice cream T, Jewel T, Scanner Boys, Cosmic Kev, DJ Bones, Lightnin’ Rich, Schooly D, Yvette Money, DJ Miz, Parry P, WKDU 91.7 with Master K and Master J-they came on Saturday mornings then Street Beat with Lady B on sundays.. It was a wonderful era.. I had Kiss and Bls on Friday and Saturday nights, then Philly radio saturday morning and sunday.. i was in the perfect spot to absorb the different flavors of hip hop.
