From time to time, your favorite rap producer might do a remix that makes you think, ‘Meh. I hope he got a nice paycheck off this…’ There are other times when you just think, ‘What a weird fuckin’ combination!’ The following produced both results in equal measure. crate digga, you’re a sick bastard for inflicting these upon us…

Bobby Brown feat. Tragedy and Mic Geronimo - ‘Feelin’ Inside’ (Marley Marl Remix)

Tin Tin Out feat. Emma Burton aka Baby Spice & GURU - ‘What I Am’ (Gangstarr Remix)

Black Eyed Peas feat. Justin Timberlake - ‘My Style’ (DJ Premier Remix)

Nine Yards feat. Neek The Exotic - ‘Matter of Time’ (Large Professor Remix)

What’s the weirdest or most unnecessary remix you’ve ever heard?

There’s a Marley Marl remix of Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’ (complete with a Biz Markie sample). The 45 King remixed Madonna too didn’t he. Presumably a house remix.

Oh there’s a Gang Starr remix of Espiritu’s ‘Bonita MaƱana’ (they were a UK poppy clubby band).

Insane…

SWV had this all-star remix of “You’re The One” with the most random line-up ever: Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Smoothe Da Hustla & Trigger, and Mr. Cheeks. This was around summer ’96, and it just seems like they pieced together as many hot-at-the-moment rappers as they could.

I just copped that Nine Yards 12” on the strength of Large Pro. A waste of dough I realize now

i heard this roxanne/superfreak mashup that was amazing dope one time, i guess you could call it a remix, they would go from sting singing about how he wants roxanne to stop being a hoe and then rick james would be like, that hoe is ill as aids, r.i.p. rick james

one that had me giving the WTF face was the mixes that Bjork did for ATCQ’s “Stressed Out.” but they weren’t that bad, i guess.

and R. Jones is buggin’. Pete Rock’s remix of “Slow Down” is bonkers.
