The other night BFred – who threw me that guest week over at XXL way back when and currently holds it down over at Complex – assembled the opinions of a bunch of rap bloggers and assorted hacks regarding the new Eminem song. The surprising thing about the end result is that my score wasn’t the lowest, although that may explain why I only received one Twitter jab from a cracker groupie while Noz received a couple of love letters via email. Remind me to award 0.5/5 next time.

What’s The Consensus? The Internet’s Top Tastemakers React To Eminem’s ‘Not Afraid’

Noz is a douche.

That twitter response is funny as hell. It’s the type of reaction you expect from some fly over state, bottom feeding white dude that worships Em. Unable to articulate their rage & full of misguided venom.
I dislike Em’s fans more than I dislike Em (and I don’t really like Em at all).

Really, the reaction should be the opposite, right? We should be flaming those not strong enough to stand up and say this is a rehash of the Eminem Show flow over a thoroughly mediocre beat. …And, I love anthemic rap; crescendo is sorely under-utilized in the genre.

I don’t want to get all myopic Nas fan on Slim and talk about how he should just remake Infinite and that he was at his best during the Bad Meets Evil days after Slim Shady dropped but before Marshall Mathers, but really it’s all been downhill since then.

He still has tons of skills and can kill it with words and pronunciation at a level beyond just about anybody else (that “Got it Twisted” freestyle!!), but this is not vintage Em by any means.

BTW, I thought “Lose Yourself” was an incredible, classic record – yeah, I said it. This jawn (is that what the kids say) pales (no pun intended) in comparison.

I agree with you on this one Robbie: terry cloth soft with a thick layer of Velvetta cheese on top. It sounds like Em is trying to tap into the Drake market with the anthem beat and cheeseball emo raps. It’s basically “Forever” all over again, but with a shittier beat, not that “Forever”‘s was all that inspiring to begin with.

This sh@t is garbo. His singing is awful, and I can’t connect with, or care about the subject matter. M.O.P makes Hip-Hop anthem music that I fux with. Holla.
