Here’s the first track from a remix project put together by a kid called Confidence, who’s ReCon mixtape will feature his versions of Capone-N-Noreaga‘s ‘T.O.N.Y.’, G. Rap‘s ‘On The Run’ and Black Moon‘s ‘How Many M.C.’s’, amongst others. A good idea or should some songs be off-limits to remix?

In theory its a cool idea, especially if it puts new heads up on the classics… But i’m a nineties head through and through and that beat doesnt do it for me.
to quote ‘ness on that very song “..It ain’t nothing like the original”
This remix is cool and all, but I dont know, I would only wanna play/spin the original. Any person doing remixes is cool if done right, but still, there are certain songs that you should never touch. And you should only remix something if you make it better then the original, which obviously is pretty fuckin hard to do.
Comment by Shaun D. aka Wicked 09.25.10 @Nothing is sacred. Sample/remix/cover everything/anything always. As long as the end product sounds dope I don’t care. I like this remix therefore he was right to remix it in my mind. The new version doesn’t take away from the original and if you don’t want to listen to the remixes you don’t gotta.
Comment by Mag7Music 09.27.10 @If the Acapella has been released, then it is not off limits to being remixed.. even if the remix sucks.. You gave them the green light to blend, remix and sample that vocal for something else the second you pressed the wax with an instrumental on it.. This is hip hop.. we take what we like and use it, lol
Comment by LEX 09.27.10 @I’d rather focus on songs that were ruined by a wack beat selection, to be honest… In some cases, like this one, I just doubt that a remix can offer more than the original (Buckwild’s Life’s A Bitch remix is the exception o the rule). Also, if you choose “classics” you’ll have to go against the memories of the listeners: maybe it’s just me, but after listening to Brainstorm since the day it came out, hearing it with a different beat just feels weird and somehow out of place
For example: taking some songs or single verses from last year’s disappointing DJ JS-1 album would be a good idea…
Comment by reiser 09.29.10 @The original is a true classic, but this one’s also very good. Gives the track a whole new vibe. Come on guys, that’s a brilliant sample collage, right?
