When I interviewed Mr. Starks before the release of his R&B album, I asked him if we could expect him to rhyme over raw breaks anytime in the near future:
Robbie: Would you ever do an album of just goin’ over breaks being cut-up, like that ‘Last Night’ skit you had?
Ghostface Killah: Yeah, yeah, I like that. There’s gonna be more of that, I love that. That’s the best.
Apollo Kids feels as close to that kind of concept as we’re ever going to get….cop it now here.

Very dope album… erase Jim Jones (horrible) and fucking Joell Ortiz (horrible voice, already reached his potential and is on fast decline) and the thing’s near perfect…
Game and Black Thought especially both outdid themselves.

Comment by QUITDABS 12.20.10 @Joell Ortiz is going from strength to strength this year, a lot of diverse and dope material from him lately. That Jim Jones-track is a sore thumb, useless. But when the rest is out of this world great, thats nothing to focus on really, my copy is on its way. And In the park is song of the year, no small feat, thats how nostalgia is supposed to sound like hahaha
Comment by PAS 12.21.10 @Robbie, did you ever post the GFK interview? I can’t recall reading it. Either way I hope this drops on wax too, still haven’t gotten a chance to listen to it.
Comment by gstatty 12.23.10 @Nobody, I mean NOBODY murks those breaks like Starks. He should do an album or a mixtape called The Ultimate and rock over ALL those old school joints. I’d love to hear him over Funky Drummer or Amen Brother.
