Improve Yourself is a dope track the others are boring.

Comment by JP 01.28.11 @

Yay. Like it says in the song “Bringing back the 90′s cos we love that”. That’s pretty much why blogs like Unkut & TROY exist and this is probably as close as we are ever going to get to that. If you can’t get behind a project like this, what are you doing here ?

Comment by CrateDigga78 01.28.11 @

I hope that’s not the final cover though.

Comment by CrateDigga78 01.28.11 @

Wow. “That” rhymes with “that.” Who knew?

Comment by J 01.28.11 @

Damn, this is pretty painful considering these brothas made Sound Of Tha Police and A Friend together…

Comment by The Grand 01.28.11 @

really love the beat on we love this.

Comment by pepvogel 01.28.11 @

They look like a gospel duo with them collar shirts.

Don’t forget Represent The Real Hip Hop and Blowe.

Comment by Lotuz 01.28.11 @

Hmm not bad tracks agreed thats a terrible cover!!

Saw the video on you tube of show in the studio, little suprised by his benz, rolex etc etc.. little different than the run away slave days…

Comment by Kevlar 01.28.11 @

^Showbiz always liked his pockets fat not flat

Comment by Krisch 01.28.11 @

I hope that’s not the cover.

‘THE TRUTH’ IS THE STRONGEST JOINT HERE..THE OTHER ONES I NODDED OUT & ALMOST FELL ASLEEP, SHITS WAS BORING AS HELL..I HOPE THIS AINT THE DIRECTION THIS LP IS GOING

Comment by QUITDABS 01.28.11 @

INDEED ‘THE TRUTH’ IS THE HOTTEST JOIN RITE OVA E, AND THEM LYRIX ARE JUST DELISH!
THE ‘IMPROVE YOURSELF’ SOUNDS DIFFERENT FROM THE THE GODSVILLE PT.1 DOCUMENT. UNFORTUNATELY THE OTHERS TRACKS AINT THAT POPPIN.
I BELIEVE SHOWBIZ IS SOME ON OTHER WAVES OF MIND, HAVING REACHED A CERTAIN LEVEL OF PRODUCTION HE’S PROBABLY LOOKING FOR SOME ESSENCE, SIMPLE LOOPS, CLEAN WORKED SAMPLES, MORE IN THE WAY TO CREATE A BREAK THAN A BEAT. I DUNNO IF SOME OF YOURS HAVE LISTEN TO SOME LATE WEST TO THE EASTCOAST PRODUCTIONS BUT THERE’RE A FEW LOOPS SHOWBIZ USED WAY BEFORE, AND SOME OF THESE MCS COME WITH THE SAME SAMPLE BUT REARRANGE IT. GODSVILLE IS GON BE SOME GROWN-UP HIP HOP BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN THE TAST OF ALL. KINDA LIKE AG IN HIS RAPS TOO!

Comment by donaleski 01.28.11 @

After Buckwild and Celph Titled’s super dope Nineteen-Ninety Now album, I was kind of hoping for some harder edge vintage sounding beats, and lyrics that were a little sharper. Nay.

Comment by skinny 01.28.11 @

I read the comments first and thought “uh oh!” But yo, it’s not that bad. I mean, it’s not great where I’m like “oh shit” or anything like that, but the songs are cool and I like them. I like that beat for “Improve Yourself” the best though.

Comment by keatso 01.29.11 @

Showbiz lost his fire a long time ago, most of his post-millennial output was sub-standard. Same with KRS.

Comment by Chulee ManSun 01.29.11 @

I wait this, good songs right here. The Truth is hot, E Blaze produced it.

Comment by 20b 01.29.11 @

these beats are pretty weak compared to what showbiz can really do…

Comment by CERTIFIED HATER 01.29.11 @

I feel like If U fucked with Kris and Show in 90 and 93, then fuchk with em now cuz they still relatin to you. Niggaz cant expect the tunes to be soundy dusty and slightly ragged like the classic shit. Hiphop fans need to support the veterans like how the ppl support Bon Jovi and Billy Joel after years and years!

Comment by chronwell 01.29.11 @

those joints are wack as hell!!!! Celph Titled & Buckwild just showed that it is possible to make an album which sounds like back in 1995… but this shit??? NAY!!!

Comment by DaGrimeyWay 01.29.11 @

lol, since the Buckwild album was made in 1995 of course it’s gonna sound like it’s 1995 all over again. i fucks with this.

Comment by claaa7 01.29.11 @

i’ve seen another cover for the album that’s just black and says Show Ft. KRS-One and then Godsville in big white letters with a crown on the i. i prefer that cuz anything looks better than the shit up top

Comment by claaa7 01.29.11 @

meh, big fan of Show but his beats don’t crack like they used to. kind of like what’s happened to Primo.

Comment by sooch 01.29.11 @

This is definitely not Show or Kris’s best work, the last two cuts are the strongest of the four. I liked KRS and True Master’s, it was a solid album, hopefully this will not be an indication of things to come.

As for the album cover, I don’t see anything crazy or out of line…a turntable, a drum machine, a microphone, a crowd, the borough, a legendary producer and a legendary emcee. Maybe cats are thinking too hard or only concentrating on shirt collars.

“Improve Yourself”

Comment by eric nord 01.29.11 @

These beats are the hip hop equivalent of smooth jazz. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Boring drums, boring samples.

Comment by jack in the box 01.30.11 @

Nothing to get excited about but i’ll still give it a shot when it drops.

Comment by Carl 01.30.11 @

bronxbred: it’s more the way it’s hooked up/designed that looks cheap and amateurish. but that has been the case with alot of album covers the last years

Comment by claaa7 01.30.11 @

i would of shot the cover for free, dammmm.

Comment by rich 01.30.11 @

Claaa7 the criticism of the cover is valid, if people feel it is amateurish and cheap, I can’t argue with that. My point was if the album cuts we’ve heard were of a better quality, I don’t think as many people would be focusing on the cover. I agree that it is not the most professional or creative, I didn’t express myself clearly in my first comment. It’s not the worst cover, it’s basic, it definitely could be better, no question.

Comment by bronxbred 01.30.11 @

Wow!where are u ppl ears at? If this ain’t hot then watt is? It’s 2011 bx grimy shit!!! Gotta luv it!,,

Comment by Asislord 01.31.11 @

I just find it amazing that this is the same Showbiz from Runaway Slaves & all his other classic productions …these beats are so boring it’s unreal, the drums are so thin, no warmth or depth to then at all.

Surely he realizes this is what people love about his early productions, the real heavy Bronx Hip Hop beats.

Sharing the same lab with Premo too, at least Preme still brings that bang with the MPC60 & S950 in the mix.

KRS still got the lyrics but needs some real heavy hard hitting beats!

Comment by Mac Hustle 01.31.11 @

Shows transition into the digital age demonstrates subtelty and maturity. Hes still the master of understated simplicity. If you listen to all those records like All Love you here that same stripped back sound back then but with a bit more nineties gravel. Dont be comparing this shit to blowe and a friend just cos thats how they did things together 14 years ago. its 2011

Comment by Sedkno 01.31.11 @

meh…

Comment by JonnySimps 01.31.11 @

No weight whatsoever. KRS is alright though.
Im saving my hardearned for the return of the boom bip then, I dont feel like hearing anyone of these tracks again.

Comment by PAS 02.01.11 @

Showbiz is still the g.o.a.t as far as I am concerned, all these beats are dope, outside of the cover I can’t wait for the album, I would rather a Showbiz x Fat Joe full album however

Comment by Bladerunner7L 02.01.11 @

i agree the drums are not fat a little!

Comment by llingo 02.01.11 @

beef it up show! you can make more layered shit on an sp1200!

Comment by llingo 02.01.11 @

The Truth: is a damn nice track… The other are a bit of a let down.

For all those of you putting this on Show’s supposedly declining production skills, I encourage you to go listen to 2007′s “Live Hard”, which had some really dirty tracks.

I hope the album outshines this sampling.
Thanks for the preview.

OUT OF ALL THE COLLABO ALBUMS KRS HAS BEEN MAKING, LATELY THE ONE WITH MARLY MARL WAS THE BEST(HIP HOP LIVES) THE ONE WITH BUCKSHOT HAD TO MANY KEYBOARD BEATS, AND THE ONE WITH TRUE MASTER WAS DECENT. AFTER HEARING THESE SONGS WITH SHOWBIZ I WAS EXPECTING MORE. THEIR NOT WACK BUT THEIR NOT GREAT EITHER. AFTER HEARING THE CELPH TITLED AN BUCKWILD ALBUM,PLUS THE MARCO POLO AN TORAE ALBUM ANY ALBUM TRYING TO RECAPTURE THAT 90′S FEEL OR SOUND HAS TO FOLLOW THOSE ALBUMS BLUPRINTS TO ME.IT MIGHT BE 2011, BUT IN ORDER TO CAPTURE THAT FEEL OF THE 90′S,YOU HAVE TO REVERT TO THE TECNOLOGY OF THAT PERIOD TO ME. SO THAT MEANS USING THE SP12,SP1200,ASR 10,MPC 60,S950 OR MPC3000,NOT THE MPC 2500 OR 5000, OR SOME CHEESY KEYBOARDS,OR FRUITY LOOPS,OR OTHER SOFTHWARE PROGRAMS TO MAKE TRACKS. AND WHEN RECORDING NO GOT DAM PRO TOOLS USE TWO INCH WHEEL TO WHEEL TAPE IF YOU WANT TO BE NOSTALGLISITC ABOUT IT BUT THAT’S JUST MY OPION ON IT. SO OVERALL I WANT A LITTLE MORE FROM THESE TWO CONSIDING THEIR TRACK RECORD TOGETHER.

I got sneak peak at the the cover and the one up top aint it. whew!!!! The album is dope, i heard a few more tracks and I am not mad at it at all Don’t sleep!! let the tracks marinate ya brain. and listen to the whole album, I think the doubters will have a different outlook in a couple of weeks.
peace

Comment by G 02.03.11 @

No disrespect to either of these dudes’ legacies, but they sound mad old and tired on these joints.

Comment by Black Stabbath 02.03.11 @

Improve yourself is heat. I’ll be showing support when this drops
