Its great too read interviews that offer legitimate insight into the persona and grind of an artist. Great work again Robbie.

Converting from Catholicism to Islam (if true) is just about the stupidest thing a South Philly Italian could possibly do...

And, if true, how the fuck did Paz get MORE ignorant while doing so?

Religion of peace my Tony Luke's roast pork eating ass!!!

That said, Vinnie has the spirit but he sells himself short with the non-stop fake aggro bullshit.

A good complement to this interview would be to talk to Chief Kamachi btw, one Philly's most underrated.

I dig that Vinnie Paz fellow, he's got some great raps. First time I heard him was when I was in High school back in like '98 or '99 when I first started listening to ill bill, non-phixion, necro and all them cats. Kinda crazy to think that was 13 yrs ago. Old man steez. Anyhow, its funny that he mentions how everyone expects him to be all sciency and spiritual and shit. I always liked that aspect of his raps and thought, man, this guy is intelligent, we don't have enough of that in rap. The great thing about his raps though are that he's like an intelligent hoodlum. I always related to that cause I'd be kickin it with friends that were gang related, tag banging, rollin with crips or SMGs out in LA, and I'd be freestyling with em, puttin em on new rap and then I'd be like, yeah Socrates this, Hegel that, phenomonology this and proletariat that. When you place the thoughts of a genius and a philosopher into the mind of a hoodlum, drug dealer or a graff artist, it creates a fine balance of grittiness and precision of thought that gets manifested in rhyme form or artform or tony montana style work ethic/grind. This is what I see in cats like Vinnie. As much as people throw hate on this guy for some fuckin stupid reason or other (perhaps because they are simple simons that don't understand anything other than base actions and animal instinct) if they only opened up their mind and accepted something different instead of more of the usual status quo like that shit you hear on the radio and see on tv, perhaps they'd gain something beyond the mind numbed head nodding. Don't get me wrong though I still love me some gangsta shit and often times several tributes to ignorance. Props Robbie.

I've always found Vinnie Paz interesting, being that I grew up in Philly in the 80's and 90's. His attitude and menace are products of the city so I've never questioned his "toughness" like other rappers.

He's from South Philly in particular, which still to this day has a strong Italian community. I've always been interested what his relationship with the community is, once he left his inherited Catholicism to become a Muslim, not to mention there used to be (and probably still is) a lot of racism against blacks amongst Italians.

Paz and Ill Bill have much in common in that they're both legit dudes (Paz should get over the fag bashing, however, as there's PLENTY of guy dudes who'd beat his fat ass to a pulp) who are fucking annoying as hell on the mic... Though Paz has moments and doesn't torture us with either emo or bad metal bullshit.

Still, birds of a goddamn feather, I guess... be interested to hear VP air out Babygrande more too.
