So were UMC’s the group that beat Stu Fine up, or did another group do it to, who Wendy Day (?) referred to a couple of times in interviews? I had the first UMC tape, I was surprised how much it was going for on ebay at ome point but no longer had it, nor would I probably have sold it.Robbie, didn’t you use this interview before for some digital mag or something, or just parts of it?

Salute to you for this article. So many of these stories need to be documented. This hip-hop legacy is so deep and rich. Kim makes some bold claims but based on this article I would have really wished to see the UMC’s rock a show at that time. Still have the 1st album on cassette. Never heard the 2nd.

Great interview. I suspect Kool Kim means to refer to Clifford Brown (not Clifford Smith) when he talks about Meth’s trumpet playing.

Fruits of Nature still bumps today, but I agree with Liar. The UMC name threw me off for a while. Ultra had problems too. At the end of “Funk Your Head Up”‘s linear notes it reads “For those who steal, bte, borrow and use our name, FUCK YOU”
