This was a crazy story then and remains a crazy story now. The only person at that time who believed Eric produced the tracks in question on the let the rhythm hit em and don’t sweat the technique albums was Eric. Tons of credible sources vouch for Paul. Things could have gotten really ugly when Eric got magnetic, Ben and others involved but fortunately things never went too far left.
Anton Pushansky,Large Pro’s engineer for many years, said in a recent interview that Large did all the beats on LTRHE. I didn’t realize this back and forth was goin’ way back then. On Eric B.’s recent Combat Jack Show interview, he still sounded a little salty about the situation. Heads mention the Eric/Rakim and G Rap albums but no one ever mentions the alleged ghost production he did on Tragedy’s first album.’90 was a hell of a year for Paul…
Eric b was just the money man pushing the whole thing. Cant compare to quincy jones and call yourself a conductor by bringing some f ing records. That dude putting the pieces of the puzzle together and making it sound right is the man that deserves the credit.
Dj ivan doc, paul c , large pro, etc. Are in that same boat, not getting their justice.
@ Oska – there is a hint of an Extra P credit for the first Tragedy album in the liner notes of the reissued double CD package of Tragedy’s first two albums, in saying “his fingerprints are all over it”. I’ve found the interview with Anton P from 2012, I’ll read this very slowly…
KAPIKAP IS ON POINT. THIS ALL COMES BACK TO THE NEBULOUS NOTION OF WHAT A PRODUCER IS AND THE WAY OVERTIME THAT IT HAS TRANSFORMED FROM ESSENTIALLY A TALENT FINDING AND RESOURCE GATHERING DUDE LIKE JOHN HAMMOND TO THE MAESTRO TYPES LIKE SPECTOR AND THEN ON TO THE DUDES THAT WERE REALLY PROGRAMMING HEAVY AND WHO AT ONE POINT WOULD HAVE JUST BEEN PROGRAMMERS OR ENGINEERS UNTIL SUCH POINT AS THEIR ROLE BECAME MOST CENTRAL. THERE IS A MIXTURE OF DUDES GENUINELY FEELING LIKE OH THEY WERE THE PRODUCER BECAUSE THEY CONCEIVED OF OR ENABLED A PROJECT TO HAPPEN AND DUDES WHO WERE JUST STRAIGHT JACKING. REMEMBER ALMOST EVERYONE WHO ROLLED WITH MARLEY HAS AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER INTIMATED THAT HE JUST TOOK THEIR IDEAS AND SAMPLES AND RAN WITH THEM AND YET NONE OF THEM EVER MADE MUSIC AS GOOD WITHOUT HIM. DITTO FOR EL DOCTOR DRE.
Eric doesn’t lie well.
Does anyone remember that ridiculous Eric B wikipedia bio? It was saying that he owned like 50 restaurants and lived in a palace or some shit?
Eric does raise one good point… So many dudes made beats or wrote rhymes for or whatever for others but didn’t get the credits in the name of paying their dues. It’s not the first time.
But good on large pro for standing up for himself and getting his credit. When you look at it he’s been that loyal to the memory of Paul C plus putting on others like neek the exotic etc I guess that’s how he sees things, credit where it’s due.
I still can’t forgive him for hanging tattoo from fantasy Island on a coat hook either!
^^^^lmao…
……BREAKING NEWS…It’s been announced that Eric B. will collaborate on a new album with……..Keyboard Money Mike. Further details will be announced at a later date…..
@oskamadison: Scoop!
Everyone who remember Eric B’s solo album knows – that man can’t produce two notes after another to save his life.
From Anton P:
On who produced Eric B. & Rakim’s album Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em:
“That’s something that I don’t think gets talked about enough. As far as I know, every song on Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em is a Large Professor beat. And those sessions were funny, because by then Eric and Rakim wouldn’t be caught in the same room together. So a lot of times, one would come in and the other wouldn’t. Even more times, none of them would come in. And for twelve hours, it’d be Paul [Large Professor] and I talking music and making beats.”
^^^And there you have it…
whats the dam beef? both they names on the credits ! wtf!
