Download: Marco Polo – Newport Authority 2 LP

Marco Polo just dropped this free album to keep things rolling until Port Authority 2 in July.
“The Newport Authority 2 album was inspired by politics & industry bullsh*t that prevented this material from being included on PA2: The Director’s Cut. Shylow and I went in and created a separate album to hold people over until PA2 drops in July. Attached with Intro, interludes and fully mixed & mastered by Joe Nardone. With confidence I can say this is not a mix tape. It will also be available on vinyl LP via Fat Beats for the heads that appreciate physical product, because I still do. I’ve included songs I recorded with legends such as Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Tragedy Khadafi, Lil Fame and The Artifacts. But, I’ve also got joints on here with some talented up and comers such as First Division, MidaZ and Big Gutta. Plus the sh*t is free – so enjoy!”

Download: LA Rap – The Good Old Days

There was a time when I was rocking as much, if not more, LA Rap than I was stuff from New York. This was a time when rapping about shotguns over old Zapp loops was all that was required to impress. So in the spirit of rap blogging from 2006, here’s an hour of great Californian rap music to drive by.

Unsigned Skype: Cole James Cash

Although I ignore pretty much everything that turns up randomly in my email, the notes for this album caught my eye:
“Shoutout to New York for giving me my entire style of production that I essentially ripped off from producers much better than myself. Shoutout to my worthless deadbeat of a father for abandoning my mother but leaving me well over 2000 records to sample from because you had no means to take them.”
Turns out the album was a good listen, so I reached out to it’s producer and had a quick talk to him to find out his story.

Vado feat. JR Writer – Full Clip

Best track off Vado‘s Slime Flu 3 tape. It’s be nice if he would throw a few more of these type of songs on his shit for variety.

Download: Raekwon – Lost Jewlry EP

Managed to fight back the Wu-Fatigue from the other week and give this new Raekwon a spin. Despite sounding a little distorted due to being mastered FAR TOO LOUD, this is pretty good. The Scram Jones tracks were the stand-outs for me, especially the “Trans-Europe Express” flip on “Came Up.” Hopefully a remastered version appears soon, but in the meantime here’s the EP with the title that English teachers hate.

Download: Sparkle Motion – Miracle Blends Mix

If my mother would let me have ladies in her basement, this is the kinda stuff I would play to ‘em to set the mood something lovely.
Time to lace up those Timbs, throw on a Champion hoodie and get ya Eastcoast Stomp on… Sparkle Motion are back with “MIRACLE BLENDS”. TOBES and DJ Yoda cut, mix and scratch their way through an hour of “Yo! MTV Raps” staples, blending Hip-Hop and R&B acapellas with instrumentals, originals and remixes – with a few surprises thrown in along the way. “Miracle Blends” was inspired by the legendary New York City tape-masters of the early 90s like Ron G, Kid Capri and Doo Wop.

Download: Unkut Presents The 40 Oz. 2012

There goes another in year in rap. As Weirdo Rap and EDM Rap takes hold of the youf, it’s getting a little more difficult to pick-out 40 great examples of non-progressive rap that Mitt Romney would approve of. Neo-Con Hip-Hop to some. East-Coast Elitist music to others. We are the Conservative Rap Coalition, and we are legion. Sit back, grab a beer (or something stronger), and let this tape transport you back to a time when rap didn’t suck as much, and when drums mattered, loops were important and rapping about how awesome you were was still cutting-edge.

Weekend Throwback – Unkut Ignorance Mixtape

Re-up of the mixtape I posted in 2008:
This is a vinyl mix of great ignorant rap songs which I put together with DJ J-Red in 2002. Sure to upset anybody within earshot. Includes classics such as Willie D‘s ‘Baldhead Hoes’, Convict‘s ‘Wash Ya Ass’ and Bustdown‘s ‘Pissing Razor Blades’.

Download: On The Verge Mixtape Mixed By DJ J-Love

According to my man Mal Moe:
This is a mixtape long in the making by MPhatik Soundz in conjuntion with Illegal Promo and Dj J-Love. The intentent was to bring back a strong 90′s influenced mixtape with various artist mainly from Boston Mass and a few surrounding cities in Mass. With extreme help from label mates Confidence & Purpose (who’ll be releasing a project this year on Ill Adrenalin Records) and Tokyo Cigar supplying heat on the mic and behind the boards. This mixtape also introduces Super N.E.S the emcee and new producer M-Credible from Boston as well. Smif & Wesson, Nick Wiz, Chino XL, EdOG, Red Eye of the closers, Hell Raiser from Sunz of Man all make contributions as well. Dj J-Love does more than host this mixtape. He supplies rhymes as well.
Worth checking out, there a few non-progressive gems on here.
